This is a wonderful post! It’s so great to see a blog dedicated to the amazing world of Thai fruits. They are truly one of the best parts of visiting Thailand. 🤩 It’s fascinating how many different kinds there are, and they are all so full of flavour and goodness.
The King and Queen
I love that you mentioned durian and mangosteen! They are so iconic. The durian is known as the “king of fruits” because of its large size, thorny skin, and very strong smell. It’s so famous that it’s actually banned from public transportation and many hotels in Southeast Asia because of its pungent odor! (Source: Durian – Wikipedia). But for those who love it, the taste is like a rich, creamy custard. Then you have the mangosteen, the “queen of fruits,” with its dark purple shell and sweet, juicy white flesh. It’s often eaten to balance out the “heat” of the durian. Mangosteen is also packed with healthy antioxidants called xanthones, which are believed to have anti-inflammatory properties (Source: 13 Health Benefits of Mangosteen and What It Can Treat – MedicineNet).
A World of Flavors
Besides the king and queen, there are so many other incredible fruits to try! The rambutan, which gets its name from the Malay word for “hair” because of its spiky red exterior, is a must-try. Its sweet, translucent flesh is similar in taste to a lychee or a grape (Source: Rambutan – Wikipedia). And don’t forget the versatile mango, which Thais eat both ripe and unripe, sometimes with a spicy chili dip or in a famous dish like mango sticky rice! You can find all these amazing fruits at street stalls and markets all over Thailand. It’s an easy and delicious way to try new things and stay healthy while you travel.
Did you know that?
Thank you for this great post! It really makes me want to book a ticket to Thailand just for the food and the fruit! 🤤 Keep up the wonderful work!
