🏯 Buriram – The Land of Ancient Temples and Modern Football

English
The province of Buriram is a unique destination where Thailand’s past and present come together.

History lovers will be amazed by Phanom Rung Historical Park, a Khmer temple complex built on an extinct volcano. Its architecture and carvings rival those of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, making it one of the most impressive historical sites in Thailand.

But Buriram is also modern: it’s home to Chang Arena, the stadium of Buriram United, one of Thailand’s top football clubs. This mix of ancient culture and modern passion makes the province truly special.

👉 With MoriTour, you can experience both sides of Buriram — the history and the excitement.

Deutsch

  1. Hey everyone! What an incredible blog post! I loved how you highlighted the amazing blend of ancient history and modern energy that makes Buriram so special. It’s a place that truly has something for everyone, whether you’re a history buff, a sports fan, or just looking to experience a different side of Thailand. 💖🇹🇭

A Journey Through Time: The Phanom Rung Historical Park

The way you described Phanom Rung Historical Park was perfect! It really is a jaw-dropping site. I’ve read so much about it and it’s incredible to think about the people who built it all those centuries ago. This ancient Khmer temple, often compared to Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, sits on top of an extinct volcano. Can you imagine the dedication it took to build something so magnificent on a volcano? 🤯 The temple was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, and its design is meant to represent Mount Kailash, which is considered his home in the Himalayas. The most amazing thing is that twice a year, during the sunrise in early April and early September, the sun’s rays perfectly align through all 15 doorways of the temple’s main sanctuary! This is a real testament to the incredible astronomical knowledge of the Khmer people. You can find more information about this marvel on its official Wikipedia page Phanom Rung Historical Park. I am so glad that the Fine Arts Department of Thailand did such a careful restoration of this site, it’s a treasure for all of humanity.

The Modern Roar: Chang Arena and Buriram United

And then you have the Chang Arena! What a contrast to the ancient temple, but just as impressive in its own way. The energy and passion for football in Buriram is something else entirely! Buriram United, known as the “Thunder Castle,” has become one of the most successful football clubs in Thailand. Their stadium, Chang Arena, is a modern marvel and was the first FIFA-recognized stadium in the country. It’s a symbol of Buriram’s forward-thinking vision. It’s amazing to see how the team and the stadium have become such a central part of the community and a source of great pride for the people of the province. You can check out more about the team’s history and achievements on the Buriram United F.C. Wikipedia page. It’s truly a story of how sports can bring people together and put a city on the map! ⚽🏟️

    Did you know that? 😲

    • Buriram means “City of Happiness”! The name itself is so beautiful and fitting for a place that seems to have so much to offer its visitors and residents.
    • Buriram is also a “City of Volcanoes!” The province has six extinct volcanoes! Besides the one Phanom Rung is on, another one called Khao Kradong is now a forest park with a giant sitting Buddha image at the top. You can climb 297 steps to get to the top for a panoramic view of the city!
    • The province is a major hub for motorsports! The Chang International Circuit, located next to Chang Arena, is an FIA Grade 1 and FIM Grade A racetrack, making it the only track in Thailand that can host both Formula 1 and MotoGP races! This really shows how Buriram is becoming a major international destination for sports.

Buriram is definitely on my travel list now. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful and informative post! It’s a place that perfectly shows how a city can honor its past while building an exciting future. Keep the great content coming! 🙏🌟
