Wow, what a fantastic blog post! Thank you, MoriTour, for highlighting this truly special place. 💎 Your tip about visiting in the early morning is perfect—that’s when the golden Chedi (stupa) must look its most magical in the soft light! ☀️
This temple is one of my favorites, and your post inspires me to share more about why it is such a “hidden gem” in Northern Thailand. It’s in Phrae Province, a quiet, lovely town that many people miss, but it is so full of history and culture. The Sacred Heart of Phrae
Wat Phra That Cho Hae is the most important temple in Phrae. It is truly ancient! Historians say it was built during the Sukhothai period, perhaps around the 14th century. The main Chedi is 33 meters tall and covered in beautiful gold. 🤩
Inside this golden stupa, it is said to hold a holy relic of the Lord Buddha (a part of his hair and elbow bone). This makes it a very important place for Thai Buddhists to come and pray, called a pilgrimage site. It is the spiritual heart of the province. A Must-Visit for the Year of the Tiger 🐯
This is one of the most interesting facts! In the traditional Lanna (Northern Thai) culture, every person has a special “zodiac” temple for the animal year they were born in.
Wat Phra That Cho Hae is the official temple for people born in the Year of the Tiger. 🐅 It is believed that if you are a “Tiger,” you must travel here at least once in your life to pray. If you do, it will bring you great luck, success, and protection from bad things. Even if you are not a Tiger, the feeling of peace and power here is for everyone.
🙏Connections Across Borders: Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia
What I love about this temple is how it shows the unique Lanna architecture style. You can see it in the beautiful, sloping roofs that are stacked in layers.
It’s fascinating to compare this to other styles in Southeast Asia:
Seeing Wat Phra That Cho Hae really shows you how special and unique Northern Thai culture is, and how different it is from its neighbors.🤔 Did You Know That? (Surprising Facts!)
