A Journey Through History and Nature 🇹🇭
Phu Hin Rong Kla is famous for its unique geography and its past role as a major stronghold for the Communist Party of Thailand (CPT) during the Cold War era, specifically from the late 1960s to 1982. Because of the rugged and difficult mountainous terrain, the CPT used this area as their main base for their political and military school.
If you visit today, you can walk through the Lan Hin Pum (bumpy rock formations), which the students used as natural shelter from air bombings. You can also see the old headquarters buildings and the famous Pha Chu Thong cliff, where the CPT’s red flag of victory once flew high, symbolizing their struggle (Source: Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park – Wikipedia). It’s incredible that this area, once a battlefield, was declared a national park in 1984, just two years after the conflict ended.
The geology itself is a wonder. Lan Hin Taek (the cracked stone sheet) is a massive, flat plateau of rock that is split by deep, long fissures, created by tectonic plate movement over millions of years.
