π From Ayutthaya to Samut Prakan β A Beautiful Day Visiting Three Historic Temples
Today, MoriTour Thailand enjoyed a meaningful journey from Ayutthaya to Samut Prakan, stopping to visit three of Ayutthayaβs most iconic and historically important temples: Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng, and Wat Chai Watthanaram. Each temple offered its own atmosphere, stories, and beauty.
—
π 1οΈβ£ Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon
Our first stop was Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, famous for its impressive chedi and large reclining Buddha. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful temple grounds made it a perfect start to our day. Guests enjoyed walking around the ancient structures and taking in the serene morning atmosphere.
—
π 2οΈβ£ Wat Phanan Choeng
Next, we visited Wat Phanan Choeng β home to the massive 19-meter Buddha image Luang Pho To, deeply respected by Thai people and visitors from around the world. Inside the prayer hall, the atmosphere was warm, spiritual, and filled with a sense of history. Many guests were moved by the statueβs size and sacred presence.
—
π 3οΈβ£ Wat Chai Watthanaram
Our final stop was the stunning riverside temple Wat Chai Watthanaram. With its Khmer-style architecture, dramatic towers, and historical importance, this temple is one of Ayutthayaβs most photographed locations. The view of the temple by the Chao Phraya River made it a memorable highlight of the day.

What an incredible journey! π€©π traveling from the historic ruins of Ayutthaya all the way to the vibrant province of Samut Prakan is such a perfect way to explore the heart of Thailand’s history. πΉπβ¨
It sounds like you visited some of the most spectacular sites! Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon is absolutely stunning with its massive chedi and rows of Buddha statues. Did you know it was built by King Naresuan to commemorate a victory over the Burmese? π You can read more about its fascinating history here: Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon – Wikipedia. π
And Wat Phanan Choeng! π The giant seated Buddha there is breathtaking. It is said to have been built before the founding of Ayutthaya itself! π°οΈ Itβs amazing to think about how many centuries of worshippers have stood in that very spot. Wat Phanan Choeng – Wikipedia.
The highlight for many is often Wat Chai Watthanaram on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. π This temple is where the connection to our neighbors really shines. The architectural style, especially the central Prang (tower), is heavily influenced by Khmer culture and resembles the famous Angkor Wat in Cambodia π°π. It is a beautiful reminder of the shared heritage across the region, including similar influences you might see in Laos π±π¦. The symmetry and design are just world-class! Wat Chai Watthanaram – Wikipedia.
Heading down to Samut Prakan is the perfect contrast. If you visit the Ancient City (Muang Boran), itβs like seeing the entire Kingdom in one day! πΊοΈ It is the world’s largest outdoor museum and features replicas of famous structures from all over Thailand. Ancient City – Wikipedia.
